Rare Red Mesa Duck Effigy - SOLD

$0.00
SOLD

Arizona

1030 - 1150 AD

Height 6 1/2"  Width 6 1/2"  Length 8 1/4"

Provenance: Arizona Trade

A rare example with a pottery rod thru the center of the vessel making it possibly unique.

Red Mesa design range overlaps with Wepo and Black Mesa Black-on-white in the Kayenta area (organic paint, light paste, sand temper) and Holbrook A Black-on-white in the Little Colorado area (organic paint, dark paste, sherd temper). Red Mesa designs tend to have thinner lines and more open space than those of Puerco Black-on-white.

Not Found on Federal or State Land.
