Disaffected crewmen led by acting lieutenant, Fletcher Christian, seized control of the ship from their Captain William Bligh. Pitcairn people, some 7th & 8th generations of the mutineers. of only around 60 men, women and children, run a fragile economy, subsidized by carvings such as this one. Miro wood is rare and harvested on the coral atoll of Henderson island, belonging to the Pitcairn group.
